The Photos app on Windows 10 has a filter called Vanilla that gives a fairly decent high-quality black and white photo. This is what we’re starting with (image open in the Photos app). Making a photo black and white is simple and you don’t need advanced editing apps. A colored photo can be made black and white easily but coloring a black and white photo is much harder and will require special photo editing apps to do the job. Of course, most of us will always take photos in color and that’s the sensible thing to do. Users have the option to take a photo in color, or in black and white. The app’s concept of filters has now become a feature on many stock camera apps on Android phones. Instagram has made it pretty clear that a photo doesn’t have to be in its original color to look good.
